Many of our recordings are available for public use at
the Cornwall Centre in Redruth. The archive’s
cornerstone project commencing in 2003 was ‘Cornish
Braids’, which was an oral history programme that was
supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This initiative
was a community-based study of Cornwall’s culture based
on the themes of work, religion, politics, leisure and
social relationships. Additional funding for the
archive’s development came in 2005 from the European
Social Fund. Themed collections now cover such subjects
as the cultural history of Cornish Methodism, border
identity in the Tamar Valley, mining life in West
Cornwall and the oral traditions of Cornish descendants
across the world. The archive also welcomes donations
of film and audio recordings from the general public.
